I am writing Family History. I need to access the Diary of Lancelot P. Earl, a passenger on the Duchess of Argyle who arrived in Sydney February 1883. My grandmother was on this ship. With her father she was washed overboard in rough seas and rescued by the crew. Great story!

My maternal great grandfather George Kidson was an anti vaccinator & was writing to warn others not to accept compulsory vaccination as the ship was about to set sail. Sadly, he lost his infant daughter Emma on the voyage along with other children & young adults, etc. The ship was quarantined upon atrrival in Sydney. In December 1885 my Grandmother was born & named Emma Maria, the Emma being after the lost baby girl on the voyage to Australia. Luckily the two young sons Joseph Hume 7y.o. & Samuel 4yo. survived though Samuel drowned at sea on his 18th birthday out of Vancouver, Caada on the bark named the Cadzow Forest in a storm as they beat out to sea as was common to do lithe late1880's. There were no survivors. One ponders, if the first Emma had not died, would my Grandmother have been born thus leading to our generations.
