Description

Immigrated from North Uist, Scotland after being forced off the land by Lord MacDonald's men as part of the wider Highland Clearances. Sailed with his new wife Janet, his mother-in-law Catherine Link (Laing in Gaelic) and her children. Catherine and some of the children were offloaded in Cork after an outbreak of smallpox on board. They later travelled on the Olivia to South Australia. Angus initially worked as a Shepherd for John Ellis at Port Gawler but later bought a farm in Yahl, Mount Gambier. Angus died on 23 Apr 1900 at his home in Yahl and is buried at Lake Terrace Cemetery. He was survived by his wife and 12 children.
