Immigrated from North Uist, Scotland as part of the Highland Clearances in 1853. The Highland emigration society described her as a " Strong, healthy woman with a fine family of children." Original Gaelic spelling of surname is Laing but was Anglicised to Link on records. Catherine, also known as Ketty, left Scotland on the ship Hercules, with her 6 children and son-in-law, Angus Ferguson. Her husband had died 6 years earlier. The Hercules was forced to dock at Cork, Ireland after smallpox and fever spread onboard. Catherine and 3 of her children had to disembark and enter quarantine. Her daughters Janet, Ann and son-in-law Angus, continued on the Hercules. Catherine and children later joined the ship the Olivia to continue their voyage, arriving in Port Adelaide on 14 Nov 1853. The family settled in Mount Gambier, South Australia. Catherine died on 26 Mar 1885 in Yahl, Mount Gambier.
