One of my distant relatives, John Davies Ormond (1831-1917), sailed on the Ralph Bernal to New Zealand in 1847, as confidential clerk to Edward Eyre, aged just 15. John Davies Ormond settled in New Zealand and later ran the Province of Hawkes Bay and was a member of the House of Representatives for the Clive constituency
