Journey Notes

The Ramillies.- The following particulars of the passage of the Ramillies have been obligingly furnished by Mr.Pleydell, who has resigned his situation as an officer in Messes.Dunbar's service, and has arrived by the Ramillies with the intention of settling here,- On August 16th embarked the emigrants and on the 8th left Plymouth Sound and passed the breakwater with a fresh breeze from the W.N.W. On August 14, in lat. 41° 10' N., long. 13° 15' W., signaled the barque Guide of Lubeck; and on the 8th of the same month passed to the eastward of the island of Madeira; on 21st lat. 26° 1' N., long. 49° 20' W., signaled the barque Bezabeb, from London, bound to the Cape of Good Hope, and four days later sighted one of the Cape Verde Islands. ON August 26 lat. 14° 54' N., long. 25° 25' W., sighted the Roman ship Eloigin, from Cardiff, bound to Manila, and at 3 p.m. on the same day boarded the barque Orient, from Algoa Bay, bound to Point de Galle, from Sunderland. On September 9, lat. 1° 43' S., long. 35° 51' W., signaled the ship Robert Palsford, homeward bound; and on 24th same month was in lat. 34° 51' S., long. 23° 51' W., and spoke the ship Swiftsure, 43 days out, from Melbourne, bound to London. On September signaled the Hamburg barque Gandelia, from Calize, bound to Hamburg roads. The Ramillies rounded the Cape about October 9, and experienced the usual stormy weather, which protracted the passage several days. She is commanded by Captain Wright, who has, by his conduct on this passage, completely won the respect and esteem of all on board. The vessel will most probably proceed into the harbour during the day, when the emigrants will be open to selection. Register 12/11/1860
