The Camperdown of the Dundee clipper line of ships, is another of the iron age, and a splendid ship for the transport of people. She looks a very smart craft having beautiful lines and well appointed spars - indeed, it would be difficult to find a smarter looking craft. Captain Paton reports a very pleasant voyage through-out, without any noticeable feature. On February 12 she left London, and after touching at Plymouth she took departure on the 22nd. Two days afterwards she was clear of the land, and had a pleasant time making southing till crossing the Line on March 19. in 24° 27'. The southerly trades presented no especial feature, and on April 13 she was on the Cape in 41° S. She then increased the southing to 28°, but instead of brisk breezes light variables were met with, which continued till a few days prior to making the land, when northerly winds set in and lasted to the end of the voyage. During the passage there has never happened a heavy gale, and the only casualty was blowing away a sail or two and carrying away the mizzentopgallantyard. Register 10/5/1878
