This smart ship sighted Kangaroo Island 85 days from Cape Clear, but her passage up Spencer's Gulf has been very much retarded by strong northerly gales, causing the ship to drive with both anchors down, and 10 days were consumed in reaching Port Augusta. Captain Phillips reports having spoken no vessels on the voyage. The Raphael is the first ship from Britain direct to Port Augusta and brings a large cargo of general merchandise. Register 9/10/1861.
