In company with L'Espérance on an expedition in search of the lost explorer La Pérouse. Called at Teneriffe (13 - 23 Oct), Table Bay (17 Jan - 16 Feb 1792) and Van Diemen's Land (25 Apr - 28 May) before proceeding to the Pacific and Amboyna (6 Sept - 15 Oct). Then investigated the Southern coast of Australia, being off Cape Chatham on 5 Dec., and examining the Recherche Archipelago from 17 - 24 Dec 1792. The coast was abandoned near the Head of the Bight on 3 Jan.1793 after the ships had reached 31°49'S and 131°38'30"E. They continued to Van Dieman's Land, New Zealand, and via the Pacific tp Sourabaya (28 Oct 1793). [Sexton]
